Raja Petra is Headbanging on ABIM

Mon 2 June 2008

Yesterday I met the president of ABIM at Rembau during Majlis Selawat conducted by Syeikh Mohd Fuad Kamaluddin (one of N9 state fatwa council members) and Yayasan Sofa in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan.

The man looked so tired and a bit frustrated with something. In his silence suddenly he voice out some of the things that had been invading his mind lately and told me "actually I need to do lots of work at my office and not able to come here, but what Raja Petra wrote in his blog (malaysia-today) has taken my mood away. So I'm hoping to have a of peace of mind by coming here".

So here is the link that he was talking about (if I'm not mistaken) :

Well, after reading the article I do feel that what he wrote was too hard on ABIM. Just because of one statement given by the organisation has made them receive a total new different meaning of ABIM.

Thousand deeds mean worthless just because of one mistake?

But personally, I don't think that there is anything wrong as ABIM is only querying about the government policies. What's wrong with that ?

I am not UMNO or taking any sides, I never been in any parties before but I'm just expressing something that I dont feel right. Talking about Islam, I wonder what makes Raja Petra think that what he wrote is Islamic?

Is 'cursing' people Islamic? besides, why need to drag the mufti into this? are you telling everyone that you are the only muslim that practice Islamic ways in this world?

Actually I really admire Raja Petra for his braveness voicing out his point of view in his blog. He is now becoming one of the most influential persons in this country and that mean that it is an 'amanah' for him to others. Sometimes its good to criticise but extremism doesn't mean any good.

There's a story of Rasulullah who feeds one old blind Jewish man who always hated and cursed him everyday. That man never knew that it was Rasulullah who fed him with bread until Rasulullah died, Abu Bakar came to this man and fed him just like what Rasulullah did. Knowing that it was a different person, the old Jew asked where goes the man who used to feed him before? after explaining, the old Jew cried and regret and then became a muslim.

The prophet does not teach us doing bad things to open people eyes. Why not Raja Petra learn and do the same as well?
